We Are Super Readers March is Reading Month
Renaissance Public School Academy is gearing up to celebrate Reading Month! During the month of March the entire school will participate in encouraging and celebrating each other as readers. Along with the themed days on our calendar, classes will have surprise visits with guest readers throughout the month. We welcome any guest who wants to share a love of reading with our students!
We will participate in a few school wide efforts to promote literacy such as a “Tournament of the Books” (classes will vote for their favorite picture books read aloud to them) and school wide story writing. Each class will also be participating in a reading competition. Students are asked to track their reading minutes at home each evening and weekend and submit them to add to a class total. As classes reach 1000 minutes of reading, their Super Teacher will climb a building in our school city scape. The class to reach for the stars and read the most minutes during the month will win a fantastic prize!
Check out the full calendar here.
Students: Submit your reading log minutes here.
Here are some details for each of the themed days throughout the month:
“Wear a hat and read with the Cat”: March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday! In honor of his famous book “The Cat in the Hat” we will wear hats to school and spend lots of time doing our favorite activity, READING!
Super Readers Day: All students are encouraged to dress up as a superhero today! Costumes, favorite t shirts, and homemade capes are all encourage. Please remember no masks or weapons of any kind.
Favorite Book Character Day: We want to celebrate all the best books by dressing up as our favorite book characters today. Be creative, and bring your favorite book along to share if you have it!
Booknic: This Title I sponsored event has become a favorite at RPSA! Families are encouraged to come to school for a picnic lunch inside the school and read with your students. Read the flyer for more information with specific times and a school lunch order form.
Red, White, & Blue Day: We are very excited that two Michigan government officials are visiting RPSA today and reading to some of our students. In honor of their visit, we will dress in Red, White, and Blue!
2nd Trimester Learning Celebration: Visit us today to see all of your student’s hard work over the last 12 weeks. Each student will have a Science project, Social Studies project, and informational writing piece to share. It’ll be an awesome day celebrating our students! (specific time to be announced)
Pajama & Reading Buddies Day: We’ll wrap up reading month today with some reading in our pajamas. Students may bring a stuffed animal to school to read with. Classes will also partner up today for buddy reading.
